UNITED IN SONG: On Saturday, September 8, Pontnewydd Male Choir joined with the Garndiffaith Gleemen in concert at the Gleemen's Hall in Pontnewynydd, and what a great welcome they gave the choir. The Gleemen, under the direction of Gethin Banfield and their accompanist John Jolley, did the first half of the concert with a variety of items that showed to great effect the talents of this choir, which is about to celebrate its 60 years of existence, 30 years of which has been conducted by Gethin.

Their programme was interspersed with two appearances by a small local ladies' group of six singers, led by Lyn Bevan with their accompanist Jean Evans, and are called Mello D. This title is most appropriate as they harmonised so well. Mello D also started the second half before Pontnewydd Male Choir took over.

 Mello'D in Bon Marche

We are a mixed group of ladies both in ages and dress sense. We always like to look our best when we have a concert so what to wear is always a topic when preparing for one. We talk about styles and colours for a while and then usually settle for black. Tina decided that maybe we could get some style help for the people at Bon Marche. She sent them an e-mail telling them all about us and they wrote back saying they would love to help. We all had fun looking around and trying things on and finally settle on some peices that would make us gel together as a group, once we were all change we performed a small set for the staff and customers of the store in Cwmbran. Bon Marche were also kind enough to send us all home with some goodies free of charge.
